A Bivouac of Cossacks
These paintings document Cossacks resting in temporary camps as they travelled across Europe during the Napoleonic wars. The Prince of Wales, later George IV, hung the paintings at Carlton House amongst works on a similar theme by Dutch seventeenth-century masters. The original Empire-style frames have been reunited with their paintings for the exhibition.
