SIR DAVID WILKIE (1785-1841)
A study of a seated girl
circaRCIN 917563
This is a study for the seated girl depicted on the extreme left of The Penny Wedding, which can be seen in the first room. Wilkie usually produced detailed figural studies as he finalised poses and connections between figures. He adjusted the pose of this seated guest in the finished painting, raising her arm to tie up the skirts of the woman beside her.
