Roberts visited the Middle East 1838 – 9. His numerous watercolours provided the basis for volumes of lithographs, published between 1843 – 9, dedicated to Queen Victoria. An immediate success, the publication ensured that Roberts's views were seen by a wide audience and became the most popular and influential images of the Middle East at the time.
Acquired during the reign of Queen Victoria
