This writing table was made for the residence of Charles-Philippe, comte d'Artois (1757-1836) at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in 1796. The Edinburgh firm of Young, Trotter and Hamilton renovated the State Apartments and supplied a collection of new mahogany furniture. The elegant style of this furniture was similar to that supplied to the residents of Edinburgh's stylish New Town.
