INDIAN

Equatorial sundial

1400 - 1876

RCIN 11215

This sundial has two time measures, one that measures 60-minute hours and a second that measures 24-minute ghatis, a measure of time based on Indian astronomy. Sundials of this type would usually be made of brass but the use of silver marks this example out as a presentation piece. The highly reflective silver sheet makes it difficult to get a precise reading of time.
