JAIPUR

Model of a Jaipur House

RCIN 42376

As the Prince and his suite entered the city of Jaipur, the striking architecture led William Howard Russell to liken the buildings to ‘solid strawberry creams streaked in white arabesque’. This model, made by students of the Jaipur School of Art, was based on eighteenth century haveli (townhouses) from the region. These houses were often decorated with elaborate murals of processions.
