Sword and scabbard (Sosun pattah)

RCIN 11421

This sword belonged to Bishan Singh (1672–1699), the former ruler of Amber and ancestor of the rulers of Jaipur. Amber was the former capital before it moved to Jaipur in 1727. This sword has an overlaid gold talismanic square on the blade, which often featured on South Asian swords, in the belief that it protected the owner.
