One of the most notable collectors in early nineteenth-century England was the West Indies proprietor George Watson Taylor. When part of his collection was sold in 1825, George IV aquired several pieces of pietra dura furniture including this pair of cabinets, part of a distinctive group of English cabinets in this style attributed to the little-known maker Robert Hume.
