BARTOLOMEO SCHEDONI (1566-1616)

A beggar

c.1610-15

RCIN 906115

Schedoni worked for several years for the Farnese in Parma, and his paintings and drawings show an interest in earlier Parmese artists such as Correggio and Anselmi. This drawing depicts a beggar holding out his hand to receive alms. Beggars appear in several of Schedoni’s paintings, though no figure in exactly this pose can be found in any surviving work.
