    DOMENICO FETTI (ROME C. 1588-VENICE 1623)

David with the Head of Goliath

    c.1620

    RCIN 404731

Fetti painted this work at the height of his career while employed at the court in Mantua. The Old Testament tells of the shepherd boy David who kills Goliath with a single stone from his sling and then decapitates him with Goliath’s huge sword. In the background the giant’s body lies on the battlefield as the Israelites triumph over the Philistines.
