DANIEL SAITER (1649-1705)
Diana and Endymion
c.1693-4RCIN 906720
Daniel Seiter was born in Vienna but trained as a painter in Venice and Rome, and in 1688 moved to Turin to work for Duke Vittorio Amadeo II. One of his many paintings for the Palazzo Reale was a canvas set into the ceiling of the Duke’s bedroom, depicting the moon goddess Diana gazing enraptured at the beautiful shepherd Endymion, asleep among the satyrs and putti of the wilderness.
