GIOVANNI BAGLIONE (1566-1643)
Le vite de’ pittori, scultori et architetti
1642RCIN 1150674
Baglione was one of Rome’s leading painters around 1600 (see nos. 95-6), and his compendium of the lives of over 200 modern artists shows that he was also a generous critic. Though his own style was very different from that of Caravaggio (whose biography begins on the opening shown here), he wrote appreciatively of his former rival’s talents.
