The Sacrifice of Noah

c.1670-75

RCIN 905547

Gaulli was a protégé of Bernini, and equally accomplished in large-scale frescoes, portraiture and subject painting. This study depicts the appearance of God (with a rainbow as a sign of his covenant) to Noah and his family, as they offered a sacrifice in thanksgiving for their deliverance from the Flood.
