RAPHAEL (URBINO 1483-ROME 1520)
The Three Graces
c.1517-18RCIN 912754
Around 1518 Raphael’s assistants frescoed the vault of the garden loggia of Agostino Chigi’s villa in Rome, now known as the Villa Farnesina. This is a study, from a single model in three consecutive poses, for the Three Graces pouring a libation in the Wedding Feast of Cupid and Psyche. Though Raphael executed none of the frescoes himself, drawings such as this show that he was closely involved in their design.
