Thomas Sandby, who was draughtsman to the Duke of Cumberland from 1746, was with the British army in Flanders in 1747 – 8 and made a number of meticulous drawings of the army camps. The army was based at Eindhoven on 5 July 1748 when Sandby signed and dated this work.
