Apollo and Daphne, Bacchus and Ariadne

These four works come from a set of fourteen, probably created during Pellegrini’s time in England (1708 – 13) to decorate a London mansion or country house. Their original context is lost but these vivid painterly figures must have fitted into decorative panelling in pairs, to make stories of the loves of the gods. Acquired by Frederick, Prince of Wales Cats 228, 229, 230 and 231
