GASPARD DUGHET (1615-75)
Landscape with figures by a pool
c. 1670-75RCIN 405318
This landscape and cat. 134 (displayed nearby to the left) are executed in the dark, grave style Gaspar Dughet learned from his brother-in-law, Nicolas Poussin, though this one has the looser touch which he developed in his late work. Though not created as a pair these two have been treated as such since at least the eighteenth century.
Acquired by Frederick, Prince of Wales, who also commissioned the frame
