Jacobite forces met government troops at the Pass of Glen Shiel, in the north-west Highlands of Scotland, on 10 June 1719. The terrain was particularly challenging, with mountains trapping the combatants on both sides. The battle was a victory for the government commander, General Wightman, ending Jacobite hopes of a challenge to the Hanoverians in 1719. Bastide’s map combines a bird’s-eye view of the valley with an elevation of the adjacent mountains.
