Pier table and pair of candle-stands
This table (one of a pair) was designed to stand between windows below a mirror, and flanked on each side by matching candle-stands. The front and top of the table and tops of the candle-stands are decorated with a cipher ‘GR’ (Georgius Rex) for the King, encircled by the Garter. A section of the decoration is prominently incised ‘MOORE’, an unusual practice for a furniture-maker at this date.
Probably made for George I for the Privy Chamber, Kensington Palace, 1723 – 4
Cat. 103
