SIR ANTHONY VAN DYCK (1599-1641)

Portrait of a Man

c. 1630

RCIN 406036

This is one of several Van Dyck heads of c.1630, executed in a free and confident style, seen through a stone oval window which was probably added by an assistant. The heads may have been sketches taken from life in preparation for a group portrait which has not survived. Acquired by Frederick, Prince of Wales Cat. 139
