During the reign of George II, Benjamin Goodison was cabinet-maker to the King and Queen and to their son, Frederick, Prince of Wales, for whom this walnut table was probably made. By the 1740s, mahogany had virtually replaced walnut as the preferred timber. The legs and frieze are carved from solid walnut, while the top is a veneer cut into four equal parts on to an oak surface.
