Side table and pair of candlestands
The table (one of a pair) was designed to stand between windows below a mirror and flanked on each side by matching candle-stands. In common with other tables in the exhibition, the table was probably originally fitted with a carved apron decorated with the King’s cipher (see cats 101 – 103). Three of the stands can be seen in the watercolour of the King’s Gallery, Kensington Palace (cat. 33).
