HENRY WILLIAMS (ACTIVE 1728-38)
Stool
1737RCIN 1230
The stools were designed to match the armchairs (cat. 115) and originally numbered 24. Their design is likely to be derived from sixteenth- and seventeenth-century prototypes, when the x-frame form was used for ceremonial chairs such as thrones. This basic form is clothed in a classical architectural language of acanthus leaves, fish scales, shells and lion paws.
