These stools were supplied for the Prince and Princess of Wales’s State Bedchamber at Hampton Court Palace, the most important ceremonial space in their apartments. The joiner Richard Roberts supplied 18 of these walnut stools along with a pair of matching armchairs, as well as the bed frame, made of oak but splendidly covered in crimson silk damask.
