JOHANNES KIP (1652/3-1722)
View and Perspective of London, Westminster and St James's Park
c.1727RCIN 702207
This splendid panorama was begun in late 1715, when Kip advertised for subscriptions towards its production. The work was finished in summer 1720 and dedicated to Caroline, Princess of Wales. The royal residence of St James’s Palace is to the left and George I and the Prince and Princess of Wales can be seen riding in carriages below. The panorama continued to be published for some years: the example displayed shows the new church of St Martin-in-the-Fields, consecrated in 1726.
