The scientific laboratory, nicknamed the Rookery, with Hussey (left) examining the anemometer and James (right) removing rime from the dip circle. Hussey and James were prime examples of Shackleton’s selection process; James was recruited because he could sing, and Hussey because (according to Shackleton) he looked ‘funny’.
