Hurley took numerous photographs of Emperor penguins. The ice floes teemed with wildlife, including seals and birds, providing welcome fresh meat for the cooking pot as well as subjects for Hurley’s camera. Fresh meat was a valuable source of Vitamin C which prevented scurvy. Hudson the navigator was deemed the best penguin catcher.
