Miscellanea
1522RCIN 1080368
Politian’s Miscellanea was an innovative collection of essays on philology and criticism, and appeared in several editions after its first publication in 1489. Holbein’s frontispiece illustrates the myth of Phyllis and Aristotle, where the famous philosopher was so besotted with Phyllis, the lover of Alexander, that he submitted to being ridden by her.
