HANS HOLBEIN THE YOUNGER (1497/8-1543)
Sir John Godsalve (c. 1505-1556)
c.1532-4RCIN 912265
Unlike the other portrait drawings by Holbein in the Royal Collection, this work has been extensively coloured and may have been produced as a finished work rather than as a study for a painting. When this work was made, Godsalve (c.1505 – 56) was responsible for overseeing trade in precious textiles in London.
