Theuerdank is an allegorical account of Maximilian’s adventures on his journey to claim his bride Mary of Burgundy in 1477. It was part of a projected trilogy which Maximilian intended to act as a literary memorial of his life and reign. The letterforms were specifically designed to appear like a manuscript and several artists designed the 118 woodcuts.
