ALBRECHT DÜRER (1471-1528)

Burkhard of Speyer (16th century)

1506

RCIN 404418

While in Venice, Dürer painted The Feast of the Rose Garlands, an altarpiece for the German merchants of that city, and some independent portraits including this one. The sitter also appears in the altarpiece and in a miniature watercolour (Schlossmuseum, Weimar) where he is identified as Burkhard from the German city of Speyer. Dürer combines Venetian and German oil painting techniques.
