Portrait of a Man

c. 1522-27

RCIN 402867

This portrait is signed ‘HB’ and is similar to other portraits attributed to Hans Brosamer. Possibly trained in Cranach’s workshop in Wittenberg, Brosamer later produced paintings, engravings and woodcuts in centres such as Nuremberg, Fulda and Erfurt. The portrait of this man and 'The Portrait of a Woman' (Royal Collection, RCIN 402866) were presented to Queen Caroline as portraits of Holbein and his wife by Holbein himself.
