HANS HOLBEIN THE YOUNGER (1497/8-1543)

Sir Thomas Elyot (c.1490-1546)

c.1532-4

RCIN 912203

Sir Thomas Elyot (c.1490 –1546) was a writer and diplomat, and was drawn by Holbein a few years after he undertook an embassy to Charles V. Although the drawing is a pair to that of Margaret Elyot, it is unusual that Sir Thomas is shown on the right, a position normally taken by the wife.
