The Queen visits Oldham, Lancashire
22 Oct 1954RCIN 2943863
At just after three o’clock in the afternoon The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, arrived at Oldham Town Hall where she was greeted with enthusiastic cheers from the crowd who had waited patiently, undaunted by the appalling weather. The Queen is pictured as she prepares to inspect a Guard of Honour of the 41st (Oldham) Royal Tank Regiment, Royal Armoured Corps (T.A.). Speaking after The Queen’s visit, one spectator is reported as saying, ‘no work was done afterwards because employees were too busy talking about how bonny The Queen is’.
