Tour of the Pacific Islands
In October 1982 The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh visited the Solomon Islands and Tuvalu as part of their tour of Australia and the Pacific Islands. The Solomon Islands became an independent state and member of the Commonwealth in July 1978, but retains The Queen as Head of State. In this photograph The Queen is seen with a Solomon Islands warrior, after watching a display by dancing groups from eight of the islands’ provinces.
