LEONARDO DA VINCI (VINCI 1452-AMBOISE 1519)

A portrait of a woman in profile

c.1490

RCIN 912505

The six hundred drawings by Leonardo in the Royal Collection cover all aspects of his work, both artistic and scientific. This portrait of a young woman was clearly drawn from the life. There is a wide range of handling of the metalpoint, from the sweeping outlines of the bust and flowing layers of loose hair to the restrained modelling of the face.

The aims of The Royal Collection Trust are the care and conservation of the Royal Collection, and the promotion of access and enjoyment through exhibitions, publications, loans and educational activities.
