Princess Victoria of Hesse, later Marchioness of Milford Haven (1863-1950)

Inscribed 1868

RCIN 420516

Reginald Easton, a watercolourist and miniature painter, became particularly well known among aristocratic circles for his miniature portraits of children. He was first recommended to Queen Victoria by her daughter, Princess Helena. Princess Victoria (1863-1950), Queen Victoria's granddaughter, is shown here aged five years. Easton painted this miniature, together with that of Princess Victoria's sister, Princess Elizabeth, in 1868. Princess Victoria was the eldest daughter of Louis IV, Grand Duke of Hesse, and Princess Alice, third child of Queen Victoria. She married Prince Louis of Battenburg. She was the maternal grandmother of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
