dated 1851RCIN 452380
The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations opened in the ‘Crystal Palace’ in Hyde Park, London, on 1 May 1851. It was the culmination of nearly two years’ work by Prince Albert and a dedicated committee. Here Queen Victoria is shown on the dais at the opening ceremony; she described the event as ‘one of the greatest and most glorious days of our lives’.
