Commode
1785-90RCIN 2593
This magnificent commode was almost certainly designed under the guidance of French dealer-decorator Dominique Daguerre (d. 1796), but made by the leading Parisian cabinet-maker, Adam Weisweiler. The cabinet is an example of the fashion for reusing earlier precious plaques in contemporary furniture; it ‘recycles’ pietra dura (hardstone) plaques taken from a Florentine seventeenth-century cabinet.
