The Young Card-players
c.1630-40RCIN 405944
When George IV acquired this painting it had been altered to look convincingly like a work by Caravaggio; it is now known to be by one of the three Le Nain Brothers (who worked in Paris). George IV greatly enjoyed scenes of everyday low-life, usually by Dutch or Flemish artists; this French work suits this taste.
Purchased by George IV, 1803
