Vase étrusque
c. 1769-70RCIN 2291
A ‘garniture’ means a set of three, five or seven vases designed to be seen as a group. These three were probably not designed as a garniture but were displayed as such in the Blue Velvet Room at Carlton House, beneath Rembrandt’s The Shipbuilder and his Wife. This ensemble appears in Charles Wild’s watercolour of 1816.
