WT COPELAND (& SONS) : STOKE, STAFFORDSHIRE
Burns and Highland Mary
RCIN 34729
Queen Victoria purchased these two groups at the Exhibition of Irish Industry in Dublin in 1853. They were modelled by William Beattie in Parian ware, an unglazed porcelain intended to resemble white marble. The Golden Age was based on a passage in Ovid’s Metamorphoses. The other group represents the poet Robert Burns with his beloved mistress Mary.
