Design for the Memorial to the Prince Consort, Kensington Gardens

The competition to design the memorial to Prince Albert was won by George Gilbert Scott, with his Gothic design based partly on the Eleanor Crosses erected by Edward I to commemorate his wife, Eleanor of Castile. The memorial was unveiled in 1872 with the central statue, designed by Marochetti and completed by J.H. Foley, following in 1876.
