At the Great Exhibition the Queen and Prince Albert both bought several examples of porcelain and enamels from the display of the French national manufactories. The restrained decoration of this vase was considered by the juries well suited to its form, based on an ancient example at Naples. A corresponding vase was bought for the South Kensington Museum.
