Marble carvings
Ever anxious to capture the memory of each of her children at different stages of infancy, Queen Victoria commissioned numerous marble carvings of this kind. Each was based on a plaster cast made when the child was asleep. The transformation from plaster to marble involved a degree of idealisation.
