Nativity
c.1544-74?RCIN 405785
The kneeling Virgin with loose hair, the Christ Child lying on the ground radiating light, and Joseph holding a lamp, are derived from the vision of the fourteenth-century Swedish mystic St Bridget. The artist worked in Bruges and may be identified with Guillaume Benson, who is documented in that city between 1544 and late 1574.
Ceded to Prince Albert with the Oettingen-Wallerstein collection in 1847
