Charles Brocky came to London from Hungary in 1838 and was soon gaining commissions from influential patrons. His chalk portraits were widely admired. In 1841, the Queen saw his portrait of the Hon. Georgiana Liddell, one of her Maids of Honour, and commissioned this elegant portrait and its companion of the Prince.
