    This life-size portrait was intended to be ‘like a Greek statue’ and was originally partly coloured. The young Queen is shown as the upholder of the law and the bestower of honour.  The sculptor attempted to ‘give royalty in the look and action’, without any of the usual symbols. 

    Commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1844
