The neoclassical designs of the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770–1844), long resident in Rome, were widely reproduced across Europe. His Night with her children Sleep and Death began as a marble relief, with a companion, Day. Only two examples of this model were made by the Berlin factory.
