WILLIAM WYLD (1806-89)

The château of Saint-Cloud

dated 1855

RCIN 920061

The royal visit to Napoleon III in August 1855 was commemorated in an album presented by the Emperor and in sixteen further watercolours commissioned by the Queen. Wyld had become one of the most successful watercolourists working in Paris and this is an important record of the château, which no longer survives.

Commissioned by Queen Victoria for her Souvenir Album

No. 292
